Saints Open WHAC Play with Win Against Rochester on the Road

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team started WHAC (Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference) play with a doubleheader against Rochester on Saturday. The Saints won 8-6 in the first game and the second game was canceled due to field conditions. Chris Winkelman went 2-3 while earning two RBIs, one hit, and one walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Parker Swartz (W, 1-5) earned the win on the mound for SHU as he pitched eight innings allowing eight hits, four runs, three walks, and one home run while striking out six batters. D. Monear (L, 1-3) had the loss on the mound for the Warriors pitching five innings allowing six hits, five runs, and two walks while striking out three batters. 

The game was scoreless until Rochester got on the board first in the bottom of the 3rd-inning scoring two runs. Carter Scillion bunted and reached first on an error by the pitcher that scored Justin DeWitt. Ty Marasco reached on a fielder's choice and earned an RBI scoring Connor Romine. 

Siena earned four runs in the 4th-inning as Cameron Hammer doubled to right field scoring Cole VanWasshenova and Deven Hill for two RBIs. Chris Winkelman singled to left field and advanced to second on the error by the left fielder for an RBI that scored Cameron Hammer. Jacob Jackson reached first on a fielding error by shortstop scoring Chris Winkelmam. 

The Saints gained the 7-2 lead in the 6th and 7th innings when Brad South flew out to the center field for a sacrifice fly scoring Thomas Lamnek for an RBI. Adam Wilding scored on the passed ball and Chris Winkelman flew out to the center field for a sacrifice fly RBI that scored Cole VanWasshenova. The Warriors added one more run in the 7th-inning when Connor Romine homered to center field. 

In the 9th-inning Thomas Lamnek singled to left field for an RBI scoring Cole VanWasshenova for the 8-3 lead. The Warriors gained momentum in the final inning as Carter Scillion reached first on a throwing error by the pitcher scoring Noah Wolfgang. Ty Marasco singled to center field for an RBI scoring Connor Romine and Brandon Williams grounded out to short stop and Carter Scillion scored but it was not enough that secured the 8-6 win for the SHU.
