Saints Split Against Goshen on the Road

GOSHEN, Ind. -- The Siena Heights baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader to Goshen (Ind.) on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1: Siena Heights 7, Goshen (Ind.) 2

Andrew Werth earned the win on the mound for Siena as he pitched three innings and struck out three while allowing three hits and one run. The Saints got on the board first as Adam Wilding homered in the top of the 1st-inning. The Maple Leafs tied the game in the 2nd-inning as Ryan Giltheron reached first on the fielder's choice that scored Nate Lange. 

SHU scored two more runs in the 3rd-inning when Chris Winkelman hit a 2 run home run to center that scored Cole VanWasshenova for the 3-1 lead. Siena earned another run in the top of the 5th-inning as Chris Winkelman singled to left field that scored Cole VanWasshenova who reached on base on a double to deep center field. 

The Saints went on to add three runs in the 6th-inning when Haydn Smith hit a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Jakob Scroggie. Adam Wilding singled to center filed scoring Anthony Scali. Cole VanWasshenova was hit by a pitch that brought in Adam Wilding. Goshen earned one more run in the game during the 6th-inning as Morgan Baker scored on Parker Mabe wild throw but it was not enough as SHU recorded the 7-2 win. 

Game 2: Goshen (Ind.) 19, Siena Heights 5

Matthew Love had the loss on the mound for the Saints as he pitched 2 innings and struck out 2 batters while allowing 7 hits and 9 runs. SHU scored a run in the 1st-inning as Cole VanWasshenova reached first on the fielder's choice that scored Cameron Hammer. The Maple Leafs scored 4 runs in the 1st-inning off five hits. 

Goshen earned 5 runs in the 2nd-inning off 2 hits. SHU brought in three runs in the 3rd-inning when Mike Garcia singled to center field that scored Haydn Smith and Cameron Hammer. Cole VanWasshenova singled to shortstop scoring Adam Wilding. The Maple Leafs went on to score 6 runs in the 3rd-inning off 4 hits. 

Siena earned one run in the 4th-inning as Cameron Hammer reached base on an error that brought in Jakob Scroggie. Goshen scored 4 runs between the 4th and 6th innings off 4 hits to secure them the 19-5 win.
