Delgado's title leads Saints to fourth-place team finish at Albion

ALBION, MICH. - Seven Saints placed at the Albion Invitational on Sunday to push the Saints Women's Wrestling team to a fourth-place finish.

Mia Delgado's first-place finish at 191 pounds paced the Saints in the 12-tournament field.

Delgado pinned her way through the tournament to improve her overall record to 8-6.

She pinned Augustana's Angie Guy in 2:53 in her first match and in the finals pinned Davenport's Katelynn Lee in 1:36.

Delgado's title was the first individual tournament championship in program history.

"We learned a lot today and this was a good way to finish the first month of our season before the Thanksgiving holiday," said Head Coach Dominic Adams. "We set a program record for tournament finish as a team, placers, and had our highest placer. These are all very good things as we gear up to begin competition in the very tough Mid-South Conference."

Chelsea Horsley earned second place at 109 pounds for the first tournament placement of her career. Horsley used a 12-2 tech fall over Albion's Gabby Motz in her first match of the day.

A semifinal pin over Aurora's Camila Neuman just 37 seconds in put Horsley into the championship match. Horsley lost by fall to Hiram's Kylee Bentley in 40 seconds.

Bo Geibe improved her team-best win total to 14 on her way to her third-place finish at 170 pounds. Geibe was winning her first match when East Stroudsburg's Daminana Racciatti got the pin. A pin for Geibe in the 1:39 over Augustana's Sawyer Graham and a tech fall over teammate Alayna Smith put Geibe in the third place match. Payback was on Geibe's mind when she pinned Racciatti in 1:08.

Zoë Hussar went 3-2 on the day at 155 pounds to finish fourth. She dropped her first match to Northern Michigan's Noelle Gaffney 12-4, but then rattled off pins over Augustana's Abbey Ellis and East Stroudsburg's Raven Gardner. Hussar pinned teammate Maggie Mann in 2:29 before falling in the consolation finals by pin in 2:16 to Adrian's Aspen Dodge.

Phoenix Waters started the day 2-0 with a pin over East Stroudsburg's Grace Kaczanowski and a tech fall against Albion's Hannah Arledge-Teran at 136 pounds. She dropped her semifinal match 5-1 to Northern Michigan's Diana Dzasezeva, lost to Adrian's Shawna Oesterling and finished with a win in the fifth place match with a 15-4 tech fall against Arledge-Teran.

Both Mann and Smith each earned sixth place for the Saints.

Mann started her day at 155 pounds with a fall in 1:22 over East Stroudsburg's Sophia Lombardo before losing by fall against Adrian's Megan Vondrasek in 32 seconds. She lost to Hussar and then dropped a 14-10 decision to Lombardo to earn sixth.

Smith started her day with a pin at 170 pounds in 3:20 against Hiram's Addison Disman. She then dropped her semifinal bout to Adrian's Kayley Rada in 19 seconds, lost to Geibe by tech fall and dropped her fifth-place match to Disman by fall in 1:56.

UP NEXT: The Saints are off until Dec. 2-3 when they travel to Willamsburg, Ky for the Patriot Duals.
