
ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's volleyball team nearly pulled off the reverse sweep before falling to Michigan-Dearborn, 3-2, in WHAC action on Wednesday at the SHU Fieldhouse. Set scores in favor of UMD were 25-19, 25-18, 17-25, 23-25, 15-9.
Devyne Eisenhauer finished with 14 kills and 12 digs while Olivia Norman totaled 11 kills and 10 blocks for the Saints (6-3, 1-1). Emalee Maesch added 10 kills while Aubrey Bates compiled 39 assists and six blocks.
Melina Hanes had 15 digs and Jessica Holsapple was in on five blocks.
Siena Heights took the early lead in each of the first two sets before the visiting Wolverines (8-2, 1-1) used 5-point runs in each.
During the first, SHU jumped out to a 6-1 start and led until UMD chipped away to pull into a 10-10 tie. Trailing 12-11, Dearborn scored five straight points and led through the end of the first.
The Saints opened with a 3-0 start in the second; this time, Dearborn was down 12-10 before scoring five consecutive points to take the lead for good through two.
Siena Heights pushed out to a 10-4 advantage and never trailed in the third set. Then, in the fourth, SHU was behind 15-12 before outscoring Dearborn, 13-8, the rest of the way.
The fifth set featured only two ties -- 2-2 and 3-3 -- until the Wolverines slowly pulled way for the match victory.
Siena Heights will return to action on Saturday with a 2 p.m. WHAC home match against Madonna.
