Bates Eclipses 4,000-Assist Mark as Women's Volleyball Splits on Day Two of Labor Day Invite

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Aubrey Bates became the first Siena Heights women's volleyball player with more than 4,000 career assists as the Saints split a pair of contests on Saturday during SHU Labor Day Invitational action at the SHU Fieldhouse.

The Saints opened the day with a 3-0 loss against defending national champ Indiana Wesleyan before finishing their day with a 3-1 victory over Midway.

Bates, who broke the previous school record of 3,710 assists by Carly Tillotson (2012-15) last season, now stands at 4,023 assists as a Saint.

(Set scores: IWU 25-21, 25-14, 25-16)

Emalee Maesch finished with eight kills while Devyne Eisenhauer and Olivia Norman put down seven each. Bates made 26 assists.

On the defensive end, Maesch made 11 digs and Jessica Holsapple totaled 10.

Siena Heights 3, Midway 1
(Set scores: SHU 25-20, 22-25, 25-21, 25-12)

Bates had 40 assists and eclipsed the 4,000-mark. Norman hammered 18 kills and Kate Noe added nine.

Maesch smashed four aces while Holsapple, Melina Hanes and Maesch made 14, 13 and 12 digs, respectively.
