Women's Volleyball Drops 3-1 Contest at Madonna

LIVONIA, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's volleyball team suffered a 3-1 loss to Madonna on Wednesday night in WHAC competition. In favor of Madonna, set scores were 20-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-23.

Olivia Norman had 14 kills while Taylor Wegener totaled 10 kills and 17 digs. Aubrey Bates compiled 34 assists, 10 digs, three aces and three blocks for the Saints (8-3, 0-2).

Also for SHU, Taylor Schram had 12 digs and three aces, Payton Osborne made 21 digs and Jessica Holsapple finished with 13 digs.

Siena Heights jumped out to a 1-0 lead through the first set before the host Crusaders answered in the next three. A 6-1 run by SHU helped the Saints finish off the opening stanza.

SHU led most of the second set after taking an early 4-1 edge. Madonna chipped away and pulled into an 18-all tie. Later, with the set knotted at 22-22, the hosts won 3 of 4 points to tie the match at 1-1.

The third set tilted on a 5-0 run as Madonna grabbed the lead and held to take a 2-1 match advantage.

The fourth set featured 14 ties -- the final one coming at 22-22. Madonna (6-4, 2-0) ended the set on a 4-1 stretch to finish the contest.

Siena Heights will return to action this weekend with a pair of home matches against Aquinas on Friday at 7 p.m. and then Cornerstone on Saturday at 4 p.m.
