Valentine Wins High Jump, Richards Third in Long Jump; Both Set School Records at NAIA Indoors

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Two school records were set Friday as high jumper Emma Valentine won the national championship and long jumper Linnearia Richards placed third during day two of the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships, which are taking place at the Alachua County Sports and Event Center at Celebration Pointe.

Valentine cleared the bar at 5 feet, 10 3/4 inches (1.80 meters), breaking her own record of 5-10, to claim her second consecutive indoor high jump crown.

Richards also surpassed her own record, soaring 19-4 (5.89m). Her previous-best was 19-1 1/2.

Faith Jackson qualified for the finals of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.51 seconds, earning the No. 5 seed for Saturday's championship race. Richards also competed in the 60 hurdles, placing 12th in 8.68.

Morgan Lutton tied for 13th in the high jump, getting over 5-3 (1.60m).

The Saints, who were first in the team standings after day one, have slipped to second. SHU has 29 points, behind only Cumberlands (37).
