GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Siena Heights women's pole vaulters Margherita Conrad and Emma Stewart climbed the All-America podium together, placing second and fourth, respectively, on Thursday at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships, which are being held at the Alachua County Sports and Event Center at Celebration Pointe.
Conrad cleared 3.95 meters and Stewart got over the bar at 3.85 meters.
Conrad was in the mix for the national title, but was dealt misses on all three attempts at 4.00m -- the first on a technicality even though the bar did not fall.
On Conrad's first attempt at 4.00m, she grazed the bar, which came to rest on part of the apparatus. At first, it appeared to be "bar luck" for the SHU vaulter, but a closer look ruled that the bar did not stay in the same place. On the next two vaults, the bar fell as Conrad settled for the silver medal.
SHU also had its 4x400-meter relay team in competition Thursday. Brooke Sharp, Terria Fisher, Leah Gregg and Jenna-Ann Johnson ran to 24th with a time of 4:01.47.
