Women's Soccer Sinks Lourdes in Double-Overtime to End Regular Season Play

SYLVANIA, Ohio. -- The Siena Heights women's soccer team shut out Wolveriene-Hoosier Athletic Conference opponent Lourdes in double overtime, on Friday afternoon. Mia Dronchi (Junior, West Bloomfield, Mich.) scored the game-winning goal for the Saints in the final conference matchup of the season.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Siena Heights 1, Lourdes 0

Location: Sylvania, Ohio (Wildcat Stadium)

Records: Siena Heights (12-4-1, 8-3), Lourdes (8-9, 4-7 WHAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Saints offense pressed as they registered six shots in the first half compared to the Wildcats five. Each team picked up six fouls as the half remained a battle but they remained scoreless through half time as neither team was able to find the back of the net.

Lourdes defense held strong against SHU's dominating offense in the second half as the Saints put up 13 shots comparted to the Wildcats three. The score remained 0-0 as neither team capitalized on their chances sending them to face off in overtime.

In the first overtime, SHU tallied three shots compared to Lourdes zero. Both teams were denied scoring opportunities and the score remained a draw pushing the game into double-overtime.

Both teams were neck and neck as the Saints had four shots and the Wilcats had three. Dronchi scored with a header off a cornerkick taken by Julia Stancato (Senior, South Lyon, Mich.) in the 109th minute to end the game.

TOP SAINTS

• Dronchi earned her second goal on the season. Stancato added five shots, three of which were on goal and an assist to her stat line.

Elizabeth Furgason (Freshman, Haslett, Mich.) registered nine shots, four of which were on goal.

Sophia Lentz (W, 8-5) made four saves in the winning effort for the Saints.

THE OPPOSITION

• Jayla Musselman recorded two shots on goal.

• Karlie O'Keefe and Maddy Hodgson each tallied a shot on goal.

• Kerstyn Williams (L, 8-8) made 16 saves between the pipes for the Wildcats.

WHAC STANDINGS

The Saints update their record to 8-3 in the conference with tallying 24 points. SHU currently sit in 3rd place and Lourdes remain in 8th. The Saints will find out the seedings for the WHAC tournament after the conclusion of tomorrow's WHAC games.

The Saints will kickoff the WHAC tournament on Wednesday, November 6th. The opponent, location, and time will be determined after the conclusion of the remained WHAC contest's on Saturday, November 2nd.
