Strong First Half Lifts Women's Soccer to Victory over Indiana Tech

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- A strong first half propelled the Siena Heights women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference opponent Indiana Tech, on Saturday afternoon. Elizabeth Furgason (Freshman, Haslett, Mich.) scored once off of six shots, three of which were on goal.

Records: Siena Heights (9-3-1, 5-1 WHAC), Indiana Tech (4-8, 0-5 WHAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Warriors came out firing as Danielle Blagojevic opened the scoring in the 13 minute as she netted the ball off a rebound from a goalkeeper save. The Saints fought back as Furgason scored the equalizer in the 26th minute as she blasted the ball in the upper right corner of the goal. SHU kept the momentum going as Isabel Remar (Freshman, Lowell, Mich.) scored off an assist from Jennifer Richmond (Junior, Canton, Mich.) in the 42nd minute and the Saints' lead remained through the half. SHU put up 12 shots compared to Indiana Tech's five.

The Saints dominated offensively over the Warriors in the second half as they were able to out shoot Indiana Tech 14 to one. SHU opened the scoring in the second half as Kathryn Gordon (Senior, Canton, Mich.) found the back of the net off a rebound from a goalkeeper save. The final push for the Warriors came up short and the Saints held on for the win. 

TOP SAINTS

• Furgason and Gordon each earned their first goal on the season. Remar tallied her third goal.

• Richmond recorded her second assist on the season. 

• Sophia Lentz (W, 6-3) made four saves in the winning effort.

THE OPPOSITION

• Blagojevic had the Warriors lone goal.

• Sydney Lemelin recorded two shots on goal.

• Riley Stafford (L, 2-4) made 11 saves between the pipes for the Warriors.

The Saints return home to face UNOH in a WHAC matchup on Saturday, October 19th. The game is scheduled to kick off at 4:00 pm, EDT.
