Lone Goal Lifts Women's Soccer over UM-Dearborn

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's soccer team earned a shut out over Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference opponent UM-Dearborn, on Wednesday night.  Ashley Strong (Junior, Howell, Mich.) scored the Saint's lone goal of the game.

THE BASICS

Location: Adrian, Mich. (O'Laughlin Stadium)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Saints were sharp from the opening whistle, controlling possession and setting up scoring opportunities early but all came up short as the half was a deadlock for nearly 20 minutes. Strong opened the scoring for SHU as she took a shot ten yards out and placed the ball in the top right corner of the net to give them the 1-0 lead. The Saints continued to have a number of scoring opportunities the remainder of the half but were unable to beat the Wolverines defense and goalkeeper Jordan Anheuser (L, 1-7). SHU's lead would remain through the half as UM-Dearborn couldn't score the equalizer. The Saints dominated the Wolverines 12 shots to two and four corner kicks to zero.

SHU had many scoring opportunities in the second half but struggled to land one in the back of the net. The final push for UM-Dearborn to tie the game came up short and the Saints held on for the win. SHU edged the Wolverines seven shots to five and three corner kicks to zero.
