Strong First Half Propels Women's Soccer to Victory over Rochester

PONTIAC, Mich. -- A strong first half lifted the Siena Heights women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference opponent Rochester, on Wednesday afternoon. Macy Llewellyn (Junior, La Porte, Ind.) scored once on three shots, two of which were on goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Saints came out firing as Llewellyn opened the scoring for the Saints in the 1:53 minute and earned her first goal on the season. The Warriors fought back as Madison Pelczarski netted the equalizer for Rochester in the 29:56 minute as she sent a pass from Savanna Isaacson. The half would remain at a standstill for nearly 15 minutes until Isabel Herden (Sophomore, Wedel, Germany) put one past Warrior goalkeeper Anna Green (L, 0-1) in the 43:25 putting SHU in the lead and held through halftime. The Saints dominated Rochester 15 shots to three and 10 corner kicks to one in the first half.

The second half would remain deadlock until the 82:57 minute when Julia Stancato (Senior, South Lyon, Mich.) scored off an assist from Ashley Strong (Junior, Howell, Mich.) adding to SHU's lead. The final push for the Warriors came up short and updated the Saints to a 2-1 record in the WHAC. SHU edged Rochester eight shots to six and the Warriors edged the Saints four corner kicks to zero in the second half. SHU had over half of their total shots on goal.

TOP SAINTS

• Lewellyn had a goal, Herden earned her first goal, and Stancato tallied her second goal of the season.

• Strong earned her second assist on the season.

Sophia Lentz (W, 4-3) made four saves in the winning effort.

THE OPPOSITION

• Pelczarski had the Warriors lone goal.

• Isaacson earned an assist.

• Green made nine saves between the pipes for Rochester.

The Saints will return home to face Madonna in a WHAC matchup on Saturday, October 5th. The game is scheduled to kick off at 2:30 p.m., EDT.
