SHU Women's Soccer Picked 4th in WHAC Preseason Poll

WHAC Preseason Poll Release

The Siena Heights women's soccer team was picked to finish fourth in the 2019 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Preseason Coaches Poll that was released by the league office on Wednesday. The Saints finished fifth in the WHAC standings a year ago with a 6-5 mark in conference play.

The preseason poll is voted on by the coaches in the league who rank the teams in the league from 1-12. 12 points are given to the team at the top of the list, 11 points to the second-ranked team, and so on to determine the order of the poll.

The defending regular-season champion, UNOH, finished atop this year's preseason poll after finishing with 140 points and receiving eight of the 12 first-place votes. Aquinas, who won the 2018 WHAC Tournament, finished second with 135 points and received the other four first-place votes. Madonna clinched the third spot in the rankings with 112 points followed by SHU with 104 points in the fourth slot. Concordia (Mich.) (91 pts.) and Indiana Tech (78) made up the fifth and sixth rankings. Cornerstone finished seventh with 71 points. Cleary (43 pts.), Lourdes (41), and UM-Dearborn (23), and Rochester (22) rounded out the poll.

The Saints kick off the 2019 season on August 28 with a home game against Mount Vernon Nazarene at 7:00 p.m.
