Burkman, Rachut and Bartelotti Lead Women's Soccer WHAC Honors; Eleven Named WHAC Scholar-Athletes

Siena Heights women's soccer defender Emily Burkman was named First Team All Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, as announced by the league on Wednesday. Junior midfielder Paige Rachut and senior forward Samantha Bartelotti claim Second Team All-WHAC honors as eleven Saints were named to the WHAC Scholar-Athlete Team. Also earning All-WHAC honors were freshmen Kaleigh Mahaz and Ashley Strong on the All-Newcomer Team.

Burkman led Siena Heights defense as the centerback, starting every game this season. She's accumulated three goals and four assists for SHU, including two game-winning goals, while holding her opponents to 105 shots on goal in 17 matches and only 19 goals against.

Midfielder Rachut has scored four goals--two game-winning--while adding one assist this season. Bartelotti leads the Saints with eight goals and eight assists for 24 points this season. She has scored three game-winning goals for SHU, taking 42 shots on frame for the Saints. Last season, both Burkman and Bartelotti were named First Team All-WHAC.

On the All-Newcomer team, freshmen defender Mahaz and forward Strong represent SHU. Mahaz has appeared in ten games for the Saints while starting the final four games of the regular season as an outside back. Strong has seen time in all 17 games for Siena Heights, starting in three. She's scored three goals and tallied two assists.

Eleven Saints earned WHAC Scholar-Athlete honors, including all eight seniors. In order to be nominated for the award, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status.

Redshirt-senior Alexis Gainer is a three-time WHAC honoree while seniors Taylor Hill, Erin Scheidel, Rachel Sherman and Burkman claim this honor for the second year running. First time award winners include seniors Meghan Bogg, Morgan Siterlet and Bartelotti along with juniors Kelsey Cheaney Madison Tedora and Taylor Mulder.

For the third year in-a-row, senior Erin Scheidel was named to the WHAC Champions of Character of Team.

Siena Heights returns to action in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament Quarterfinal as they host Indiana Tech on Wednesday, Nov. 1, with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
