
ADRIAN, Mich. -- Goalkeeper Crystal Wilcoxen made two key shootout saves during the penalty-kick portion of overtime as the 18th-ranked Siena Heights women's soccer team eliminated Concordia, 4-3, in a shootout after playing to a scoreless tie during Wednesday's Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinal action at O'Laughlin Stadium.
Kelsey Young had the game-winning tally, which occurred in the shootout's sixth round.
The teams were all-square at 2-2 through the first two rounds. Siena Heights shot first, getting scores from Paige Frey and Erin Scheidel, but Concordia (10-5-4) countered each time on shots by goalkeeper Jade Antolec and Julia Palushaj.
In the third, Alyssa Moulds converted for the Cardinals, giving the visitors a 3-2 advantage before Wilcoxen made a diving save to her right in the fourth on a shot by CUAA's Sydney Rouse. Then, Carlee Pallett got the Saints even at 3-3.
Neither team scored in the fifth round of PKs, setting the stage for Young's go-ahead touch. Wilcoxen sealed SHU's advancement with a save to her left on Concordia's Martha Mullett.
The second-seed Saints outshot seven-seed CUAA, 26-10, over 110 minutes of play. SHU also had a 13-5 corner-kick advantage.
During 11-on-11 Wilcoxen made four saves while Antolec stopped 10.
The Saints (14-3-2) will return to action on Saturday when it hosts a WHAC Tournament semifinal against Cornerstone.
