Women's Hoops Suffers First Loss of Season In Double Overtime

LIMA, OHIO - The Siena Heights Women's Basketball team saw their perfect start on the season end with a double overtime loss at Northwestern Ohio on Saturday.  With the loss, the Saints fall to 5-1 on the season and 3-1 in the WHAC.

Peyton Banks led the Saints with 24 points for the game.  Olivia DeLong had 15 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double while Sha'kyia Parker added 12 points and Kayla Hinton chipped in 11 points.  Hinton also led the Saints with five assists.

The Saints took a strong lead with a 19-9 run over the final seven and a half minutes of the first quarter, creating a 23-16 led after the first quarter.  A low scoring second quarter saw the lead increased to 10 points with a 33-23 half time lead.  The third quarter saw a back and forth quarter, with the lead increased to 11 points with a 51-40 score.

In the fourth quarter, the game turned.  With a 13 point lead with just under eight minutes remaining, a 21-8 run by Northwestern Ohio tied the game at 63 with eight seconds left in the game.  A last second shot by the Saints was missed and the game went to overtime.

The Saints scored the first basket in overtime, but then saw the Racers scored the next four points.  Two free throws by Parker with 38 seconds left in the first overtime tied the game at 67, when neither team could score on their ensuing possessions, the game went to overtime number two.

In the second overtime, the Saints took the first lead at 69-67, but then saw the Racers go on a 9-0 run to create a seven point cushion with 1:49 left.  Two free throws down the stretch for the Racers created a final score of 81-70.

For the game, the Saints were out shot on three point field goals 36% to 18.9% which proved a difference in the game.  A turnover deficit 25-16 which led to a 31-18 points off turnover margin in favor of the Racers was problematic for the Saints.

UP NEXT - They will return to action on Tuesday, November 22nd with a cross town rivalry game at Adrian College at 6 pm.  The Saints return home on Saturday when they play Governors State as a part of their annual Thanksgiving Tournament.
