Peyton Banks Named CoSIDA Academic All-District®

Peyton Banks Named CoSIDA Academic All-District®

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Siena Heights senior forward Peyton Banks was named CoSIDA Academic All-District first-team NAIA – District I. Banks was the first SHU women's basketball player to make the all-district team a season ago, making this year's honor the second of her career.

"Peyton has been a force for us this year and a key piece to our success," said head coach Sue Syljebeck. "She has elevated her game even more as she is seeing more double and triple teams. The best thing about Peyton is that she is a team player. She is a great teammate and almost too unselfish at times. This is a great honor for her skill and her character."

Banks is on the verge of adding more awards to her already impressive resume this year after a stellar 2020-21 season where she earned several awards. Those included NAIA All-America second team, WBCA All-America honorable mention, WHAC Player of the Year, and first-team All-WHAC.

The two-time WHAC Player of the Year currently leads the WHAC in points per game (18.5), total points (480), and free throw percentage (87.5). She ranks second in the league with 9.5 rebounds per game fourth in field goal percentage with 50.8%. Banks has 11 double-doubles this season and has earned three conference players of the week awards.

The 2021-22 Academic All-District® Women's Basketball Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.

First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second-and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in mid-March.

The CoSIDA All-Academic All-District NAIA District 1 team consists of the five best college basketball players in the NAIA from 22 states in the Eastern side of the United States.

Banks joins Kendall Fisher from Lawrence Tech as the only two players from the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference named the all-district team. The rest of the team consists of two players from Faulkner and one each from Montreat and Southeastern.
