Basketball Teams Lead Way In Donation Toward Hickman Center

The Siena Heights men's and women's basketball teams, along with the cheer and dance teams, helped raised $4,438 during their "Pink Games" against Lourdes (Ohio) on Feb. 14. Those funds were donated to the Hickman Cancer Center.

The pink day, which has taken place for more than a decade at SHU, is always a memorable event for the Saints' women's team. Both the men's and women's teams wore pregame t-shirts in honor of loved ones who fought -- or are fighting -- cancer.

"This effort has become very special to our team," women's coach Sue Syljebeck said.   "Unfortunately, we know way too many people that have been affected by cancer in our community. Our team takes great pride to help people and their family battle this disease."

Siena Heights men's coach Joe Pechota and his team were happy to participate as well.

"Our guys were honored to be part of the festivities," he said. "Pink day is a day to mark on your calendars each and every year. Everyone comes together for a great cause."
