#22 Women's Hoops Wins at Cornerstone, Clinches WHAC Home Game

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Sierra Calhoun scored 24 points to lead the 22nd-ranked Siena Heights women's basketball to a 64-52 victory over Cornerstone in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action on Wednesday. With the win, the Saints clinched a home game in the WHAC Tournament quarterfinals.

Calhoun also had five assists while Alexxis Knannlein contributed 11 points and nine rebounds. Jessie Arnold added eight rebounds for the Saints (21-6, 15-4).

SHU never trailed in the first half and took a 31-27 advantage into intermission before a five-point run Golden Eagle run helped the hosts their only lead at 32-31.

A three-pointer by Calhoun allowed the Saints to retake the lead, 34-32. An eventual 22-7 stretch -- Knannlein and Mackenzie Tomasik had six points apiece -- enabled Siena Heights to widen the gap to 56-40 with 6:07 to go.

As a team, the Saints shot 25 of 59 from the field (42.4 percent) while holding CU to a 19-for-68 performance (27.9 percent).

Ashley Niedermayer led the Golden Eagle effort, finishing with a double-double worth 16 points and 17 rebounds. Jill Steenwyk added 11 points and nine rebounds while Emma Lockhart contributed five assists for Cornerstone (18-9, 13-6).

Siena Heights will return to action on Saturday with a 5:30 p.m. WHAC home contest against Lourdes (Ohio).
