ADRIAN, Mich. -- Sierra Calhoun tallied 20 points, leading a quintet of Siena Heights scorers in double-figures, as the 16th-ranked Saints defeated Concordia, 88-81, in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference game on Wednesday. The SHU victory snapped a nine-game losing streak to the Cardinals.
Grace Howrigon added 19 points and seven assists while Morgan Warfield put in 15. Jennifer Jasinski contributed 13 points for SHU and Jessie Arnold chipped in with 11 points and seven rebounds.
The Saints stormed out to a 14-2 lead, but had to hold off a late Cardinal rally in the second half.
Four different Saints contributed to the initial 14 points, including Jasinski, who had five, and Calhoun, who knocked down four. The hosts eventually trimmed their deficit to 20-16 before SHU went on another run -- this time a 10-point streak -- to increase its advantage to 32-18.
The Saints held a 48-37 halftime lead and built their largest lead at 65-46, but CUAA would not go away.
The host Cardinals enjoyed a 17-4 stretch to pull to SHU lead to 69-63. CUAA leading scorer Brooke Adams had 10 points during that charge.
Concordia closed the gap to three points on two different occasions -- at 74-71 and 77-74 -- but both times, Warfield buried 3-pointers for the Saints. After that, SHU held its lead at five-or-more points.
Adams had a double-double worth 36 points and 10 rebounds for the Cardinals (3-3, 1-1) while teammates Becca Sabol and Megan Stone put in 16 and 10 points, respectively.
Siena Heights (3-1, 2-1) will return to action on Saturday with a 5:30 p.m. WHAC home contest against Northwestern Ohio.
