Becky Martinez is back for her 20th year on the Saints’ bench. She graduated from Blissfield High School in 1991. She then received her Bachelor’s of Arts in Social Science/Education from Siena Heights in 1996. In 2008, Coach Martinez earned her Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership at Siena Heights.
Martinez has spent 22 years as a player and a coach for the Siena Heights softball program. She was a three-year starter for the Saints in the 1990s and has spent 19 seasons as an assistant coach. During that time, she has been a part of 58% of all softball games played in the program's history (984 out of 1,699) and 56% of all program wins (474 out of 845). On top of all that, she has been present for 54% of the 41 softball seasons played. She was named the 2021 Easton/NFCA NAIA Assistant Coach of the Year. She currently serves on the Siena Heights Athletics Hall of Fame Committee.
As a player, Martinez was a co-captain for the Saints, a two-time All-WHAC selection (1995 & 1996), and an All-District 23 honoree in 1994. In addition, she was named the WHAC Most Valuable Player during her senior season in 1996 and made the All-Region team in her final two seasons as a Saint (1995 & 1996). For her outstanding performance as a student-athlete, Martinez was inducted into the Siena Heights Athletics Hall of Fame in 2007. Prior to coming to Siena Heights, Martinez spent one year playing at Michigan State.
Martinez has several years of coaching experience and is certified in the Right View Pro hitting program. She coached the Northwest Ohio Lady Irish from 1996-2004. She also spent time as a graduate assistant at the University of Toledo and was the Adrian High School assistant head coach from 1997-2002. Most recently, she served as head coach at Hillsdale College. Martinez lives in Adrian with her daughter Gabby.
