Softball Falls Twice To UMD

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights softball team lost both ends of a WHAC doubleheader against Michigan-Dearborn on Sunday at Christensen Memorial Softball Field. Scores were 6-4 in eight innings and 8-6.

The Saints (12-11, 2-5) will play next when they visit Northwestern Ohio for a 3:30 p.m. WHAC doubleheader.

Michigan-Dearborn 6, Siena Heights 4 (8 innings)
Lee Clinton (triple), Liberti Fair, Ellie Thelen (double) and Avery Schellenberger had two-hit games for SHU. Thelen added two RBI and Fair scored twice.

Cassi Kieper pitched for Siena Heights. She was charged with only three earned runs on eight hits while totaling four strikeouts and three walks.

The Saints had tied the game in the seventh before losing in the extra inning.

SHU got the scoring started on an RBI by Brooklyn Ross in the third inning before a 3-run Dearborn fourth put the visitors ahead 3-1.

Thelen tied the contest with a 2-run double in the fourth.

After the Wolverines gained a 4-3 edge in the sixth, Truax had a game-tying single in the seventh to force extras.

Michigan-Dearborn 8, Siena Heights 6
Fair and Truax had two-hit games. Emma Fair added a double and Lauren Dioszegi homered.

Truax was the losing pitcher, giving up six hits in 4 2/3 innings. She had two strikeouts and three walks. None of the runs scored against Truax were earned.

The Saints nearly came back from a 6-0 deficit after UMD plated six runs in the fifth.

SHU answered with three runs in its half of the fifth: one on a Faith Breinager groundout, one on a Clinton sac fly and one on a Liberti Fair single.

Dearborn pushed the margin to 7-3 in the sixth and the Saints answered with a 3-run sixth as Emma Fair hit a sac fly and Dioszegi blasted a 2-run home run.

UMD finished off the scoring with one run in the seventh.
