SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- The Siena Heights softball team split a WHAC doubleheader with Lawrence Tech on Saturday, winning game one, 7-2, before falling in game two, 4-1.
The Saints (12-9, 2-3) will return to action Sunday with a 1 p.m. WHAC twinbill against Michigan-Dearborn.
Siena Heights 7, Lawrence Tech 2
Avery Schellenberger batted 3-for-3 with two runs, an RBI, a double and a stolen base.
Lee Clinton added a 2-for-5 game with two runs, one RBI, a triple and a stolen base. Ellie Thelen batted 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI.
Winning pitcher Shyann Truax allowed only one earned run on five hits while recording five strikeouts and one walk.
The Saints took the lead on a bases-loaded walk drawn by Truax in the first inning and led after that.
Clinton smashed an RBI triple and Liberti Fair had an RBI single during SHU's 3-run second inning.
LTU trimmed its deficit to 3-1 in the fourth before SHU came back with one in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Emma Marshall had an RBI groundout in the fifth and Thelen ripped a two-run single in the sixth.
Schellenberger had an RBI double in the seventh for SHU's final run.
Lawrence Tech 4, Siena Heights 1
Faith Breinager batted 3-for-3 to lead the Siena Heights offense.
Cassi Kieper started in the pitcher's circle, giving up four runs on six hits. She had five strikeouts and three walks.
The host Blue Devils scored once in the first and three times in the fourth.
An RBI single by Fair plated the only Saint run in the sixth.
