Softball Rolls To Sweep Over Grace Christian

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Siena Heights softball team swept a doubleheader at non-conference Grace Christian on Wednesday. The Saints won 12-0 in five innings and 6-0.

SHU (8-6) will return to play Saturday when it opens WHAC play at Concordia, starting at 1 p.m.

Game one: Siena Heights 12, Grace Christian 0 (5 innings)
Lee Clinton batted 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI to lead the Saints. She scored twice and stole a base.

Two-hit games were recorded by Faith Breinager, Liberti Fair, Ellie Thelen, Avery Schellenberger and Emma Fair.

Breinager totaled two runs and two RBI. Liberti Fair had an RBI, run and stolen base. Thelen added two RBI and a run. Emma Fair had an RBI and run. Schellenberger scored two runs and stole a base.

Lauren Dioszegi stole two bases and scored two runs.

Shyann Truax was the winning pitcher, allowing three hits in five innings while recording five strikeouts.

Truax scored on an error in the second inning as SHU took a 1-0 lead and never looked back.

During the Saints' 5-run fourth, Dioszegi had an RBI single, Breinager added an RBI on a squeeze bunt and Clinton hit a two-run homer.

A two-run double by Thelen highlighted SHU's 6-run fifth. Breinager, Clinton, Liberti Fair and Emma Fair had RBI singles in the frame.

Game two: Siena Heights 6, Grace Christian 0
Thelen had two hits and Truax homered for SHU. Dioszegi added a double.

Winning pitcher Cassi Kieper allowed four hits while tossing the complete-game shutout. She had five strikeouts and two walks.

Thelen scored on a double-steal to put the Saints ahead 1-0 in the second.

Siena Heights had a 2-run third, scoring on RBI groundouts by Clinton and Liberti Fair.

The Saints tacked on their final three runs in the fourth when Dioszegi connected for an RBI double and Truax drove a two-run homer.
