Softball Suffers Pair of Losses Including One in Extras on Day Two at SpaceCoast Games

MELBOURNE, Fla. -- The Siena Heights softball team dropped a pair of contests Friday at the SpaceCoast Games against Spring Arbor, 2-1, and Goshen, 13-5.

The Saints will return to play Sunday with games against Trinity Christian and Shawnee State.

Spring Arbor 2, Siena Heights 1 (8 innings)
The Saints took a 1-0 lead into the seventh inning before Spring Arbor tied the game with two outs in the seventh. The Cougars then won in the eighth on a sacrifice fly.

Faith Breinager and Avery Schellenberger had two-hit games for Siena Heights.

Shyann Truax pitched the entire game, logging 7 2/3 innings. She allowed one earned run on five hits while totaling eight strikeouts and one walk.

SHU took its 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on an RBI groundout by Schellenberger.

Goshen 13, Siena Heights 5 (6 innings)
Lee Clinton had a two-hit game for the Saints and Lauren Dioszegi drove in two runs.

The Saints had a tough start, falling behind 8-0 in the top of the first.

SHU answered with a 4-run first inning. Ellie Thelen drew a bases-loaded walk, Truax hit a sac fly and Dioszegi hit a two-run single.

Liberti Fair drove in the Saints' final run with an RBI groundout in the fourth.
