The Siena Heights Softball Team opened their 2025 campaign with a couple of losses in Melbourne, Florida.
The Saints squared off with Goshen College to start the day, coming out on the short end of a 4-3 loss. Siena Heights took the lead in the top of the first with a two RBI double from Shyann Truax, plating both Ellie Thelen and Liberti Fair. Goshen tied the game at two in their half of the first inning before taking a 3-2 lead in the third inning. Faith Breinager plated the tying run when the Goshen shortstop couldn't come up with her hit deep in the hole. A late bottom of the sixth inning run proved to be the winning run, however, Fair made it interesting with a two out triple in the top of the 7th, but was stranded on third base. Truax had two hits with Fair adding the third Saints hit. Truax took the loss on the mound, throwing a complete game with six innings pitched and three strikeouts.
In game two, Johnson University took the win 5-0. The game remained scoreless into the fifth inning when an error and some hits from Johnson plated four runs in the inning. Johnson would tack on one additional run in the 7th. The Saints had quiet bats in game two as well, with three hits total, two singles by Truax and the other single by Thelen. Cassi Kieper had her first collegiate start on the mound, throwing a complete game seven innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out three.
The Saints have a quick turnaround as they will face off with Spring Arbor and Goshen tomorrow mid day and early afternoon.
