
ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights softball team finished its season with a non-conference split against Kalamazoo on Sunday at Christensen Memorial Softball Field. Both games went extra innings; SHU lost the first game, 7-2, and then won game two, 3-2.
Game one: Kalamazoo 7, Siena Heights 2 (9 innings)
Courtnee Chappetta went 2-for-4 with two RBI for the Saints. Ellie Thelen added a double.
Shyann Truax pitched 8 2/3 innings, giving up 11 hits and recording two strikeouts and three walks.
Chappetta had a pair of RBI singles -- the first one tied the game at 1-1 in the third and second tied the contest at 2-2 in the fifth.
Kalamazoo plated five unearned runs to take the lead for good in the ninth.
Game two: Kalamazoo 3, Siena Heights 2 (8 innings)
Julia Hogston had a three-hit game while Ellie Thelen and Avery Schellenberger recorded two hits each. Chappetta added a triple.
The Saints trailed 2-0 before scoring twice in the fifth. Chappetta had an RBI triple and Thelen ripped an RBI single.
In extra innings, Truax plated pinch-runner Lee Clinton with an RBI groundout for the game's winning run.
Jordan Green was the winning pitcher, allowing one earned run on 11 hits. She struck out three batters.
