Softball Drops Two To Lourdes

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights softball team dropped a pair of WHAC contests to Lourdes on Wednesday, 7-2 and 16-9, at Christensen Memorial Softball Field.

The Saints will return to play on Saturday with a 1 p.m. WHAC twinbill at Cleary. The previously-scheduled, non-conference doubleheader against Olivet on Thursday has been cancelled.

 

Game one: Lourdes 7, Siena Heights 2

Sydney Hazlett and Faith Breinager had a double and an RBI each for the Saints.

Shyann Truax went the distance in the circle, giving up three earned runs on nine hits. She had three strikeouts and one walk.

The Saints trailed 7-0 before scratching across single runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Breinager had an RBI single in the sixth and Hazlett had one in the seventh.

 

Game two: Lourdes 16, Siena Heights 9

Ellie Thelen had a three-hit game while Julia Hogston (triple) and Courtnee Chappetta (double) collected two hits each. Hogston scored twice and had two RBI. Chappetta scored three times. Ally Frank doubled.

SHU battled back after falling behind 3-0 in the first inning as Chappetta provided an RBI single in the Saints' two-run first.

Trailing 5-2 in the second, the Saints took their only lead at 6-5 with four runs in their half of the frame. Hogston smashed a two-run triple and scored via error on the play. Thelen hit an RBI single to give Siena Heights its only lead of the day.

Lourdes retook the lead with a pair of runs in the third and Breinager scored on a wild pitch in the bottom half to tie the game at 7-7.

Lourdes took the lead for good with four runs in the sixth and then plated five unearned runs in the seventh.

Hazlett drew a bases-loaded walk for the Saints during the sixth. Kelsey Speer laced an RBI single in the seventh.
