Eleven Saints Honored by WHAC

The Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference released the All-Conference Softball Awards this evening.  The Saints saw 11 students recognized for their achievements.

Highlighting the accolades for Siena Heights was Courtnee Chappetta and Eva Curtis.

Chappetta, a sophomore 1st baseman was recognized as a 1st Team All-WHAC performer for the 2nd year in a row.  Chappetta started every game for the Saints, leading the team in several statistical categories.  Her 47 hits, 10 doubles, four triples and 31 RBI led the team.  She had an on-base percentage of .443 and a slugging percentage of .559 to go along with a .992 fielding percentage.  Her .370 batting average was the 2nd best on the team, with 13 walks, two homeruns, and 22 runs scored all placing in the top three on the team as well.  Chappetta had 12 multi-hit games and hit safely in 31 of 43 games.  She had an eight game and a nine game hitting streak throughout the season to go along with five multi-RBI games.  Chappetta hit .419 with runners in scoring position with 13 two out RBI.  Her 16 extra base hits led the team as well.  Defensively, she committed only two errors all season in 243 total chances.

Curtis, a freshman designated player was recognized as a 2nd Team All-WHAC performer.  Curtis started 36 games for the Saints, playing in 39 games.  She was the DP in 32 of her 36 starts playing in the outfield and third base throughout the season as well.  Curtis led the team in batting average with a .381 clip.  She was second on the team in hits (40), doubles (7), homeruns (3), RBI (20), and third in on-base percentage (.431), triples (1), and slugging percentage (.559).  Curtis led the team hitting .500 with runners in scoring position with 10 two out RBI.  Curtis had 10 multi-hit games.  She had a six game hitting streak and also had a stretch of hitting safely in 14 of 17 games.

The Saints saw a total of 8 students recognized for their work in the classroom, with Alexis Hirst, Ally Frank, Brenna Nurenberg, Janelle Krueger, Julia Hogston, Kat Moreau, Lyndsey Pena, and Sam Spicer all honored on the All-Academic Team.  In order to qualify for the award, a student must be a junior or better academically with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or better and have been in attendance at the school for at least one full academic year.

The final honoree was freshman Carly Grassley who was recognized on the Champions of Character Team.  This team is comprised of one student-athlete from each school who best represents the five core character values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.
