
ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights came back from a six-run deficit in game one and finished with a split against cross-town rival Adrian on Thursday.
The Saints battled back from a 8-2 deficit to win the opener, 10-8, and then fell in game two, 11-3.
SHU will play next on Saturday when it visits Indiana Tech for an 11 a.m. WHAC doubleheader.
Game one: SHU 10, Adrian 8
Shyann Truax hit a game-tying, pinch-hit homer in the seventh and Courtnee Chappetta followed with a two-run bomb later in the inning to put the Saints ahead for good.
Riley Hoover earned her first collegiate win after 4 1/3 innings of relief. Truax got the save after coming on in the seventh.
Chappetta finished 2-for-4 with four runs and two RBI. Eva Curtis and Ellie Thelen also had two-hit games. Lauren Dioszegi doubled.
A two-run single by Sam Spicer helped the Saints to a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Adrian came back with a pair of four-run innings in the first and second.
SHU began its comeback in the fifth as Ally Frank hit an RBI single to trim the deficit to 8-3.
The Saints pulled within 8-6 in the sixth on RBI singles by Curtis, Lyndsey Pena and Thelen.
The seventh-inning round-trippers by Truax and Chappetta came with one out.
Game two: Adrian 11, SHU 3 (5 inn.)
Curtis drove in all three runs for the Saints -- the first two on a two-run homer in the first.
SHU took a 2-0 lead before Adrian came back with three runs in its half of the first. An RBI single by Curtis evened the score at 3-3 in the third.
The Bulldogs rattled off the next eight runs, getting five in the fourth and three in the fifth.
