NAIA National Awards Day Highlights 12 student-athletes and softball team from 2021-22

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced the 2022 Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes and NAIA Scholar Team awards.  The Siena Heights Softball Program had twelve student-athletes and their 2021-2022 team earn these distinctions. 

In order to be nominated for the NAIA Scholar-Athlete, an individual must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, must appear on the eligibility certificate for the sport, and have attended two full years as a non-transfer or one full year as a transfer.  The Saints were tied for the 4th highest number of softball student-athletes from a team to be recognized.

For a team to be awarded, they must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale for the academic year.  The Saints were the top team GPA among softball teams in the WHAC.

Earning the award for the Saints was:

Chloe Bowers (1st time), junior, psychology major and biology minor from New Boston, Michigan

Ally Frank (1st time), junior, biology major from East Tawas, Michigan

Lily Guerra (3rd time), senior, psychology and special education major from Rockford, Michigan

Sam Hill (3rd time), senior, criminal justice major from Willis, Michigan

Alexis Hirst (1st time), senior, history major and business administration major from Clinton Township, Michigan

Julia Hogston (1st time), junior, Spanish major and English minor from Dundee, Michigan

Janelle Krueger (2nd time), senior, nursing major from Ravenna, Michigan

Kat Moreau (1st time), junior, biology major from Montague, Michigan

Brenna Nurenberg (2nd time), senior, applied mathematics and English minor from Alto, Michigan

Lyndsey Pena (2nd time), senior, criminal justice major and psychology minor from Macomb, Michigan

Sam Spicer (2nd time), senior, sport management major from Monroe, Michigan

Emily Spinek (1st time), junior, business administration major and biology minor from Sterling Heights, Michigan

The Saints team was honored with their 14th NAIA Scholar Team Award and 13th straight honor with a 3.55 team GPA.  The award has been an honor for 15 years.
