Lawrence Tech Bests Men's Soccer in WHAC Action

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's soccer team dropped a 4-1 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest to Lawrence Tech, on Wednesday night. Gustavo Barros (Junior, Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul) scored the Saints' lone goal on the night.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Lawrence Tech 4, Siena Heights 1

Location: Southfield, Mich. (Blue Devil Stadium)

Records: Lawrence Tech (5-9, 4-4 WHAC), Siena Heights (6-8-1, 3-4-1 WHAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Blue Devils dominated in possesion as they put up 10 shots compared to the Saints' four. SHU put themselves on the board in the 21st minute as Barros found the back of the net. Lawrence Tech scored three of their four goals in the first half in the 15th, 23rd, and 25th minute. The rest of the half remained a draw and the Blue Devils headed to the locker room with the 3-1 lead.

Lawrence Tech continued to domimate in the second half as they put up 11 shots compared to the Saints' two. The Blue Devils scored their final goal in the 85th minute as Cesar Nunez netted the ball off and assist from Mario Colella. SHU struggled offensively against Lawrence Tech's defense as they were not able to capitilize on their chances in the second half and the Blue Devils earned the victory. 

TOP SAINTS

• Barros earned his third goal on the season.

Justin Gray (Senior, Fraser, Mich.), Chris Ornelas (Senior, Belding, Mich.), and Remy Collard (Junior, Okemos, Mich.) each recorded a shot on goal.

• Leo Hisamatsu (L, 3-5-1) made seven saves between the pipes for the Saints.

THE OPPOSITION

• Adrian Miling, Kevin Wright, Nice Rodriguez-Bermejo, and Nunez each had a goal.

• Jake Rajewski, Miling, and Colella each recorded an assist.

• Max Jewett (W, 5-8) made three saves in the winning effort for the Blue Devils.

WHAC STANDINGS

SHU dropped two spots in the league standings and now sit in 7th place. The next three games are determinates of where the WHAC tournament will be held as the top four seeds will host.

The Saints travel to face Concordia in a WHAC matchup on Friday, October 25th. The game is scheduled to kick off at 1:00 p.m. EDT.
