Men's Soccer Drops WHAC Contest to #15 Madonna

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's soccer team dropped a 5-1 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest to Madonna, on Saturday afternoon. Remy Collard (Junior, Okemos, Mich.) scored the Saints' lone goal. 

THE BASICS

Final Score: Madonna 5, Siena Heights 1

Records: Madonna (6-1-2, 3-0 WHAC), Siena Heights (5-5, 2-1 WHAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Crusaders were able to put themselves on the board first as Cezar Eduardo Hister Marcante netted a ball off a header from a cross by Enzo Poloso in the 35th minute to give them the 1-0 lead. The Saints answered back as Collard netted the equalizer off a cross in front of the box from Robin Bopeso (Senior, Ivry-Sur-Seine, France) in the 41st minute. Both teams were unable to capitalize on their many scoring opportunities and the game would remain a tie through the half. Madonna edged SHU seven shots to six and three corner kicks to zero.

The Crusaders started off the second half with a goal by Breno Stapcinskas after earning a free kick from a SHU foul in the 54th minute. Madonna would keep the momentum going as Issei Ito netted a ball from a cross by Kyle Tinnion in the 59th minute. Marcante scored his second goal off a header from a cross by Leonardo Gois Abonizio in the 67th minute. Madonna's final goal would come from Ivan Panergo as he had a break away and found the back of the net. The Saints were unable to capitalize on the rest of their chances and Madonna held on for the win. The Crusaders dominated SHU 10 shots to one and two corner kicks to one in the scond half. 

TOP SAINTS

• Collard tallied his second goal on the season. 

• Bopeso earned is first assist.

Leo Hisamatsu (L, 2-3) saved five of the 10 shots he faced in goal for the Saints.

THE OPPOSING

• Marcante had two goals. Stapcinskas, Ito, and Panergo each recorded a goal.

• Tinnion, Abonizio, and Peloso each tallied an assist.

• Joe Smith played 74 minutes and Michael Lubonja (W, 2-0) played 17 minutes between the pipes for Madonna.
