Saints Drop One to Marian

ADRIAN, MICH. -- The Siena Heights men's soccer team fell to Marian (Ind.) on Sunday afternoon after a score of 3-1. Chris Ornelas (Senior, Belding, Mich.) recorded four shots and had the lone goal of the game in the losing effort.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Knights were sharp from the opening whistle, controlling possession and setting up scoring opportunities early. They wasted no time as Jalen Rice-Lott found the back of the net after beating out a Saints defender in the 2nd minute of gameplay to give them the 1-0 lead. Marian kept the momentum going as Rice-Lott recorded his second goal of the game off an assist from Nathan Blyly in the 22nd minute of play. SHU had a few scoring opportunities in the half but was unable to hit the mark and Marian would take the 2-0 lead at the half. The Knights held a five to three-shot advantage over the Saints.

Marians offense was keen in the final 45 minutes of gameplay and would add a goal. Hamed Sidibe beat a Saints defenders to give the Knights a 3-0 lead in the 69th minute of play. SHU was knocking on the door as they had a few scoring opportunities but came up short. Alex Hanosh (Freshman, Adrian, Mich.) had a free kick in the box but was saved by Marian goalkeeper Kim Schwensen in the 75th minuteJustin Gray (Senior, Fraser, Mich.) had a breakaway but his shot went high in the 80th minute of play. The Saints were able to find the back of the net when Ornelas headed the ball off a cross from Joel Koshko (Freshman, Warren, Mich.) to put the Saints on the board in the 88th minute of play, but it wouldn't be enough as Marian would take home the win. The Knights held a 12 to seven shot advantage and a seven to three edge in corner kicks. Four of Marian's corners came in the second half.

• Ornelas led the saints with the lone goal.

• Koshko had an assist.

Andrew Kozan (L, 2-1) made five saves between the pipes.

THE OPPOSING

• Rice-Lott led the Knights as he had two of the three goals.

• Blyly had one assist.

• Eirik Hagerupsen-Hansen (W, 2-0) had one save in eight minutes of play.
