Men's Soccer Wins Thriller in Overtime Against Lourdes

The Siena Heights Men's Soccer Team battled through a rain soaked affair with Lourdes winning a thrilling game in overtime by a score of 3-2.

The game was a back and forth affair for much of the game with Lourdes taking the early lead in the 29th minute of play.  With just over five minutes left in the half the Saints found the back of the net when Justin Gray finished off a pass from Chris Ornelas to tie the game at one.  In the first half, the game was a very even affair with the Saints hitting eight shots, and Lourdes hitting seven shots.  Andrew Kozan came up big with four saves in the first half to keep the game close and tied at one.

In the second half, the Saints controlled the ball for much of the half, outshooting the Gray Wolves by a margin of 15-5.  With just under five minutes left in the second half, Elmedin Celovic finished what looked to be the game winner.  Rahbar Khan slotted a ball for a break in by Austin Siterlet.  Siterlet passed the ball off to Celovic who had the open net to give the Saints their first lead of the night.  Unfortunately for the Saints, Lourdes tied the game up with under three minutes left in regulation when a ball was flighted in from midfield, got caught up in the wind and dropped in under the crossbar.

Not to be held back, in overtime the Saints weathered an early push by Lourdes and then earned a foul in their offensive end.  Matt Lentine stepped up to the ball for the free kick and hammered the free kick over the wall and into the net for the game winner with 3:21 left in the first overtime period.  Kozan ended up making six saves in the net, many of them point blank opportunities.

With the win, the Saints improve to 4-8 on the season and 2-4 in the WHAC.  They will return to action on Saturday when they play host to Cornerstone.
