
ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team split a pair of games with Rochester Christian on Wednesday. In game one SHU fell 12-7 but came out on top winning the second game 14-10.
The Saints will return to action on Friday, April 4, when they host Lawrence Tech in a WHAC double-header at 1 & 4 p.m. EDT.
Game One: Rochester Christian 12, Siena Heights 7
Offensively, Aidan Grinstead and Kaleb Woods both went 2-for-4 at bat.
Rochester Christian exploded in the first, taking a 7-0 lead and never giving it up.
SHU got into a rhythm offensively with three runs in the second. Gino Hutchinson led the charge with an RBI single followed by a two-RBI single from Kaleb Woods. RCU's bats remained hot with two more runs in the second and three more in the third to go up 12-3 after three innings.
In the seventh, SHU's offense caught fire with four runs. Aidan Grinstead tallied an RBI single and Brock Olmstead walked to also record an RBI with the bases loaded. Later on, an RCU error sent in two more runs, but a strikeout prevented SHU from completing the comeback.
Game Two: Siena Heights 14, Rochester Christian 10
SHU's offense remained hot from game one going into game two led by Caden Gomes going 5-for-6 at-bat with six RBIs. Jack Semler also caught fire at the plate going 4-for-6 with three RBIs.
Guy Young got the win on the hill, closing the game by striking out three batters.
Semler got SHU on the board first with a home run. In the third, trailing 3-1 SHU grabbed the lead back with Kaleb Woods and Caden Gomes hitting RBI doubles followed by Landon DeVaney's RBI single to make it 4-3.
RCU then tied the game at four in the third with one run in the inning. In the fourth, Gomes hit another RBI double and later scored on an unearned run to make it 6-4 SHU.
Gomes homered in the sixth to make it 7-4. In the next at-bat, An RBI single and a three-run home run grabbed the lead back for RCU.
In the seventh, Jimmy Haranczak got into the action with a sacrifice fly to tie the game at eight. Next at-bat, RCU homered again as two more runs scored as SHU trailed again at 10-8.
Gomes homered for the second time in the eighth scoring two more runs to tie the game at 10.
In the ninth, SHU put the game away scoring four runs in the inning. Gino Hutchinson recorded an RBI double followed by another Gomes hit to record an RBI single. To end it, Semler hit a two-RBI single to pull the Saints away.
