
ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team won both double-header games against Michigan-Dearborn in their first home conference contests on Saturday. SHU won game one 8-3 and came out on top in game two 4-3 in 10 innings.
The Saints will return to action on Sunday, March 30, at Cleary in a WHAC double-header at 11 a.m. & 2 p.m. EDT.
Game One: Siena Heights 8, Michigan-Dearborn 3
Landon DeVaney led SHU offensively going 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs. Jack Semler and Gino Hutchinson also had two hits both going 2-for-3 with Hutchinson also totaling two RBIs.
On the hill, Chase Molnar went the distance allowing three runs off of six hits.
Michigan-Dearborn scored three runs in the first at-bat to go up 3-0. SHU got on the board after Devin Eads hit a sacrifice fly followed up by Aidan Grinstread hitting an RBI single to pull SHU to within one at 3-2.
In the second inning, Hutchinson and Caden Gomes both recorded RBI singles to grab the Saints their first lead of the game, making it 4-3. In the third, the Saints extended their lead after Grinstead advanced on a wild pitch making it 5-3.
In the fifth, DeVaney and Hutchinson both tallied RBI doubles. In the sixth, DeVaney got his second RBI with a single to secure the Saints' first conference win.
Game Two: Siena Heights 4, Michigan-Dearborn 3
Kaleb Woods, Jack Semler, and Devin Eads all totaled two hits and one RBI to lead the SHU offensively.
On the mound, Garret Smith got the start working six innings allowing six hits, two runs, and striking out seven batters. Andrew Baum came in for relief working two innings with one strikeout, and Guy Young finished the game on the hill and was credited for the win forcing three strikeouts.
Michigan-Dearborn scored two runs in the first to jump out to an early 2-0 lead until SHU got on the board in the fourth with an RBI single from Eads. In the fifth, Jack Semler tallied an RBI single to tie the game at two.
After a few scoreless innings, Michigan-Dearborn homered in the ninth to take a 3-2 lead. In the next at-bat, Kaleb Woods hit an RBI double to tie the game at three to send it to extra innings.
In the 10th, SHU went one, two, and three as Guy Young struck out two batters and Michigan-Dearborn flew out to left field.
In the next at-bat, Jimmy Haranczak was intentionally walked to load the bases. After a wild pitch, Nick Zito made it home from third to complete the sweep for SHU.
