
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team dropped a pair of games to Aquinas on Saturday. The Saints fell 29-4 in game one before falling in the second 10-1.
The Saints will return to action on Wednesday, March 19, at Concordia at 1 and 4 p.m. EDT in WHAC conference action.
Game One: Aquinas 29, Siena Heights 4
Kaleb Woods, Gino Hutchinson, Caden Gomes, and Jimmy Haranczak each recorded one hit and one run to lead SHU offensively. Brock Olmstead tallied one hit and one RBI while Devin Eads and Mac Melvin also recorded hits. Jack Semler added an RBI.
SHU took a 2-0 lead after the first with Hutchinson scoring on a wild pitch and Gomes scoring on a passed ball. In the third, Aquinas hit a two-run home run to tie the game before Brock Olmstead recorded an RBI single to give SHU the lead back at 3-2.
Aquinas then exploded in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings scoring nine runs in the fourth, six in the fifth, and 12 in the sixth. The Saints only scored once more after Haranczak ran one in.
Game two: Aquinas 10, Siena Heights 1
Caden Gomes went 3-for-5 at the plate with one RBI while Jimmy Haranczak and Landon DeVaney also recorded two hits.
On the hill, Garret Smith got the start working 3.2 innings allowing eight runs, 13 hits, and two strikeouts. Benjamin Weadock came in for relief to finish the game allowing six hits, two runs, and two strikeouts.
Aquinas scored eight runs in the first four innings until Caden Gomes recorded an RBI in the fifth to get SHU on the board. Aquinas then stretched their lead and capped the scoring with two runs in the seventh.
