Baseball Rolls Past Rochester Christian in Home Opener

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team rolled to a 16-7 victory on Tuesday in their home opener. 

Jack Semler led the SHU offense batting 4-for-4 with four RBIs. Mac Melvin also totaled two hits. 

The Saints will return to action on Saturday, March 15, at Aquinas at 1 and 4 p.m. EDT in a WHAC Doubleheader.

Shilo Bernal Jr. was the winning pitcher stepping onto the mound in the top of the sixth working two innings allowing one run, two hits, and one strikeout. 

After three innings, the Saints jumped out to a 5-1 advantage after Jack Semler recorded an RBI triple and a Rochester Christian error gave the Saints a 2-1 advantage after two innings. In the third, Semler recorded a two-RBI single to make it 5-1. 

Rochester Christian then followed it up with five unanswered runs to take a 6-5 lead, until Semler tallied another RBI single to tie things up at six after five innings. 

Rochester Christian saw the lead once more in the sixth after scoring an unearned run to take a 7-6 lead. 

The Saints then blew the game open in the sixth after a 10 run sixth inning. Devin Eads and Landon DeVaney started the massive spurt for SHU, both recording RBI singles to kickstart the explosive inning. Jimmy Haranczak then hit a two-RBI single to make it 10-7 until the Saints scored on a series of wild pitches and walks to make it 15-7, before Landon DeVaney hit a sacrifice fly to cap the scoring for SHU.
