Saints Fall to Madonna in Both Games

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team hosted Madonna in WHAC double-header action and dropped both games. Madonna won game one 11-9 and won game two 15-4. The Saints will be back in action on Wednesday, April 14th at Spring Arbor. 

 

Game one: Madonna 11, Siena Heights 9 

 

Leading the Saints at-bat was Brock Olmstead going 2-for-3 at the plate. Adam Wilding and Nick Tiller also recorded two hits in game one, each going 2-for-4. 

Madonna jumped out to a 4-0 lead until Adam Wilding scored a home run in the bottom of the first inning to make it 4-1. To round out the scoring in the first inning, Olmstead hit a RBI single to send VanWasshenova home to make it 4-2. 

In the bottom of the second, Gino Hutchinson grounded out to send Matt Love home to pull the Saints within one at 4-3. 

Madonna then scored seven unanswered runs to go up ahead by eight. In the bottom of the fifth, the Saints started to comeback as Kenny Layman hit an RBI triple to send VanWasshenova home. Later in the at-bat, Brock Olstead hit an RBI single to send Matt Love home to make it 11-6. 

In the bottom of the sixth, Adam Wilding then hit a three RBI homerun to pull the Saints back to within two at 11-9. The comeback effort fell short in game one as Madonna held on to win 11-9. 

On the mound, Brandon Biggerstaff played in four innings striking out one batter, Biggerstaff faced 25 batters. Shilo Bernal Jr. played the final two innings and faced seven batters and also forced one strikeout. 

 

Game two: Madonna 15, Siena Heights 4 

In game 2, in the bottom of the first, Kenny Layman and Brock Olmstead each singled both recording RBIs to put the Saints ahead 2-0 after one inning. In the bottom of the third after Madonna scored a run at the top of the third, Adam Wilding hit a double RBI to send Gino Hutchinson home to go up 3-1. 

Madonna then answered back scoring seven unanswered runs to go up 8-3. In the bottom of the fifth, Brock Olmstead hit an RBI single to send Adam Wilding home. Madonna then closed the game out scoring seven unanswered to win 15-4. 

On the mound, Luc Olson and Aiden Nighswander each forced one strikeout. Olson faced 22 batters while Nighswander faced 12 batters.
