Baseball Opens Season, Drops Pair at Midway

MIDWAY, Ky. -- The Siena Heights baseball team lost a pair of games to Midway in non-conference action, 10-0 and 6-2, on Sunday.

The Saints (0-2) will return to action with 12 games in central Florida on their spring break trip.

 

Game one: Midway 10, SHU 0

Gino Hutchinson reached base in all three of his plate appearances, batting 2-for-2 with a walk and stolen base. Cole VanWasshenova had the Saints' only other hit.

Chase Molnar started on the hill in the season opener. He pitched four innings, allowing three runs on seven hits while totaling three strikeouts and three walks.

Midway scored twice in the third and once in the fourth before blowing the game open with a 7-run fifth.

 

Game two: Midway 6, SHU 2

The Saints scored their first runs of the season on a first-inning, two-run double by Adam Wilding. Midway came back with six unanswered runs to sweep the doubleheader.

Wilding reached in all three of his trips to the plate. He was 2-for-2 with a walk.

The host Eagles tacked in a single run in the bottom half of the first. They plated a pair in the second to take the lead for good.

Brandon Biggerstaff was SHU's starting pitcher, going four innings while allowing four earned runs (one unearned) on eight hits. He had three strikeouts and two walks.
