The following was printed on Matt Pike's HOF
plaque:
Based upon his versatility, statistics and longevity in the
game, Matt Pike is the most talented baseball player to have ever
played for the Saints. During his four-year career at Siena
Heights, he played nearly every position and excelled no matter
where he played.
Pike remains among the all-time leaders in virtually every
offensive statistic for the Saints. He ranks second all-time
in batting average (.340), base hits (206), runs scored (161), home
runs (25), run batted in (141) and doubles (48).
Pike also served as the Saints’ top reliever in
late-game situations and his competitiveness and velocity caught
the eye of professional scouts. Following his outstanding
collegiate career, Pike signed a free-agent contract with the
Cincinnati Reds organization. Three years into his
professional career he signed a minor-league contract with the New
York Yankees and pitched for their single-A club in
Tampa.
In 2011, Pike entered his eleventh year of professional
baseball and his fourth with the Bridgeport Bluefish—an
Independent League team in the Atlantic League. Matt had his
best season in 2010 when he went 12-5 on the mound for the Bluefish
and was named to the Atlantic League All-Star Team.
