The following was printed on Kathi Frank's HOF
plaque:
During her seventeen-year tenure as a coach and adjunct faculty
member at Siena Heights University, Kathi Frank established herself
as an outstanding mentor and role model for the many
student-athletes she coached and those she came in contact with in
her many roles on campus and throughout the athletic and academic
community.
Frank, the winningest volleyball and women’s tennis
coach in the history of Siena Heights University, started both
varsity programs during her tenure with the Saints. On the
volleyball court, Coach Frank had two teams finish second in the
NAIA District #23 standings in the early 1980s. As the
Saints’ women’s tennis coach, she coached two #1
singles players and a pair of doubles teams to appearances at the
NAIA National Championships. She also coached two NAIA
All-American Scholar-Athletes during her tenure.
A California native, Frank came to Siena Heights in 1979 after
graduating from Long Beach State University and earned a Masters
degree from Siena Heights. A talented athlete, musician, and
teacher, Frank brought a holistic approach to both her coaching and
teaching and continues that approach today as volleyball referee,
guidance counselor and tennis coach at nearby Onsted High
School.
In honor of her hard work and dedication to molding athletic
and academic success, the women’s volleyball team honors one
student-athlete with the Kathi Frank Award annually. This
award is given to an upperclassman who best exemplifies the spirit
of a competitive athlete coupled with high achievement in the
academic environment.
This year’s induction marks the 30th year
anniversary of Kathi Frank’s first year of coaching at Siena
Heights College.
