Four Individuals Comprise 2021 SHU Athletic Hall of Fame Class;  Both 2020 and 2021 Classes to be Inducted Homecoming Weekend Oct. 15

ADRIAN, Mich. – Siena Heights University announced that four individuals comprise the 2021 class of the SHU Athletic Hall of Fame.

The 2021 class includes Haley Mancini (women's soccer), Jason Martines (baseball), Gordie Theisen (former baseball coach), and Ed Maloney (men's lacrosse coach).

In addition, the 2020 class that includes Lloyd Cowles III (men's basketball), Stacey Koehler (women's soccer), Luke Pawlaczyk (men's track and field), and James Woolsey (baseball) and the 1992 softball team will also be inducted with the 2021 class on Oct. 15, 2021, at the annual Hall of Fame Banquet as part of Homecoming Weekend. The 2020 banquet was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The following are brief descriptions of each of the 2021 inductees:

  • Mancini '11 was the goalkeeper on several powerhouse Saints teams from 2007-10. She still holds several program career records, including wins (47) and saves (371). A third team NAIA All-American in 2010, she was also the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Year after recording 11 wins, eight shutouts, and a .68 goals-against average.
  • Martines '20 played for the Saints from 1995-97 and was a standout pitcher. He finished his collegiate career with a 3.66 earned run average, 17 wins, and has a program record of 23 complete games. He was selected in the 24th round of the 1997 Major League Baseball draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks. He pitched six seasons in the minors, finished with a career 27-21 record, and made it to the AAA level.
  • Theisen '82, '11MA was the head coach of the Saints baseball program from 1988-93 and 1995-2003. He compiled 341 career wins during his time at Siena Heights, coaching numerous All-Americans and guiding several players to the professional baseball ranks. His 1989 team claimed the NAIA District 23 championship and made it to the regional finals that season.
  • Maloney was a legendary high school lacrosse coach and administrator before coming to Siena Heights to begin its program in 2008. His teams finished with an 84-51 record over 12 seasons, including three division championships. The Saints qualified for the national tournament in 2015, 2016, and 2018. In 2015, he was named the Coach of the Year in the Central Collegiate Lacrosse Association, the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, and was the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association Division II National Coach of the Year.
