Siena Heights Student Athletes Earn 3.00 GPA in Fall 2019 Semester

686 Siena Heights University student-athletes earned a 3.0 GPA in the fall semester of 2019.

The women's soccer team topped the list with a 3.64 team GPA. Women's soccer held the highest team GPA for the first time, overthrowing the women's golf team who has led the way every fall semester since team GPA was first tracked in 2013.

"I am beyond proud of the girls for this," said women's soccer head coach Scott Oliver. "All 49 players really create a great culture of support and push each other to be great students. We strive to be successful in everything we do and the hours of work to get these types of grades across the board will never go unnoticed by our coaching staff."

Women's volleyball finished second on the women's list with a 3.40 GPA. Softball was third with a 3.33 GPA with women's bowling coming fourth with a 3.28 GPA. Women's golf falls to fifth with a 3.25 team GPA.

On the men's side, the cross country team was first with a 3.19 GPA. Golf was second with a 3.13 with baseball in third with a 3.08. Men's Soccer finished fourth with a 2.99 and men's track and field rounded out the top five with a 2.85 GPA.

"We are proud of our student-athletes both on the field and in the classroom," states head men's cross country and track and field coach, Tim Bauer. "This accomplishment proves that hard work pays off."

The Saints dance team sits atop the co-ed sports list with a 3.47 team GPA. Cheer finished second with a 3.03 and eSports was third with a 2.86 GPA.

"I am so proud of the dance team for excelling both in dance and in the classroom," said head cheer and dance coach Angie Heath. "This group of students has one of the highest work ethics and strives to be the best they can be. The majority have a very demanding academic schedule, especially with 2/3 of the team being nursing and education majors. I also think that the weekly one on one academic meetings with me for all freshman and transfer dancers and those below a 3.0 GPA helps them see where they need to prioritize and that they are a student first and athlete second."
