Women's Cross Country 2016 Season Wrap-Up

The Siena Heights University women's cross country team finished second in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference and ranked 25th nationally.

Ashley Russo was the lone national qualifier for the Saints and also earned first team All-Conference honors along with the team Most Valuable Player award. Russo finished the season with a season-best 5k time of 18:19.84 at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge.

Junior Lauren McMahon and senior Mariah Ridal both earned second team All-Conference honors. McMahon also was named the team's Most Improved Runner as she finished this season with a season-best of 19:00.14 in the 5k at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge. Ridal finished the 5k with a season-best of 19:23.0 at the WHAC Championships.

Kristin Stobinski won the Tim Bauer Award of Excellence. Stobinski finished the season with a 5k best of 19:34.0 where she finished fourth place at the GRCC Raiders Invitational.

The freshman of the year award went to Katie Figueras who ran a 5k season-best time of 19:55.5 at the WHAC Championships.

McMahon, Ridal, and Stobinski were recognized as Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes and as All-WHAC Academic athletes. In order to be nominated for the WHAC Academic award, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status while a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.50 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic to be nominated for the NAIA Academic Award.
