WILLIAMSBURG, KY – The Siena Heights women's wrestling team went 2-2 on the first day of the Patriot Duals hosted by the University of the Cumberlands on Friday.
The Saints opened with a win over Cumberlands Red 31-17 and followed it up with SHU's first Mid-South Conference dual meet victory in a 33-14 win against Montreat.
The Saints dropped their next two duals meets to Top 25 opponents. No. 17 Missouri Valley handed SHU its first loss of the season, 35-12. Back-to-Back defending NAIA National Champion and No. 2 Campbellsville beat the Saints 35-12 to end the day.
"We had four tough duals with no rest in between and our team battled today," said Head Coach Dominic Adams. "I am very proud of how this team worked incredibly hard to earn its first Mid-South Conference dual despite giving up 10 points because of two forfeits. It was also nice to compete against two ranked opponents to gauge where we are at as a team at this point in the season. We must continue to get better."
A couple of highlight wins for the Saints included No. 16 Bo Geibe beating No. 4 Chamira Cooper 9-8 at 170 pounds and No. 17 Valeria Ahumada bumping up a weight class to get an 8-4 victory at 116 pounds against Lena Taylor.
The Saints move to 6-2 on the season and 1-1 in the Mid-South Conference. Siena Heights is back in action at 10 a.m. Saturday for the second day of the Patriot Duals. Wrestling starts at 10 a.m.
