Women's Volleyball Claws Back for Five-Set Win over Madonna on Senior Night

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's volleyball clawed back from a two-set deficit on Senior Night to claim a 3-2 victory over WHAC opponent Madonna at the SHU Fieldhouse on Wednesday. Set scores, in favor of SHU, were 24-26, 31-33, 26-24, 25-18, 15-5.

Taylor Wegener led the Saints' attack with 20 kills while Devyne Eisenhauer and Kinsey Wagner smacked 17 apiece. Aubrey Bates made 62 assists.

Kadie Carsten added 10 kills to the Siena Heights effort while six Saints totaled double-digit kills: Payton Osborne (31), Taylor Schram (16), Jessica Holsapple (14), Eisenhauer (12), Bates (12) and Melina Hanes (10). Wagner had six total blocks.

Down 2-0 in the match and 19-14 in the third set, the Saints were in danger of being swept until they went on a 7-1 run. SHU held a 21-20 lead and the set went to ties at 21, 22, 23 and 24 before an Eisenhauer kill and Wagner block ended the set.

Siena Heights (22-7, 14-5) never trailed in the fourth, taking a 2-0 lead to start the set and later taking command with an 8-2 stretch.

SHU fell behind 1-0 in the fifth before a 7-0 run behind the service of Holsapple. Eisenhauer had three kills in that run, Wagner made two blocks and Bates compiled four assists and one block.

The Saints ended the night on a 7-1 run, getting three kills from Wegener and three assists from Bates in that stretch.

SHU will return to action with its final regular-season match at Indiana Tech on Friday at 7 p.m.
