Women's Volleyball Suffers Loss to UM-Dearborn in WHAC Opener

DEARBORN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's volleyball team suffered a 3-1 loss to Michigan-Dearborn in its WHAC opener on Wednesday night. The Wolverines won the match via set scores of 25-23, 16-25, 25-23, 25-23.

Taylor Wegener led the SHU offense with 19 kills while Olivia Norman added 11. Aubrey Bates totaled 44 assists and 17 digs. Payton Osborne also made 17 digs.

The Saints (8-2, 0-1) fell behind 5-1 in the opening set before chipping away at their deficit. Late in the set, a five-point run by SHU pushed it into a 22-20 lead before UMD came back with a 5-1 run to take a 1-0 match lead.

Siena Heights never trailed in the second set after taking a 6-0 edge to even the contest at 1-1.

The third set featured 12 ties -- the last one coming at 22-22 -- before Michigan-Dearborn ended with a 3-1 stretch.

In the fourth, the Saints trailed 24-20 and fought off three straight match points before the Wolverines (4-4, 1-0) secured their 25th point to win the contest.

Siena Heights will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 13, with a 7 p.m. WHAC contest at Madonna.
