Saints Overcome Five Set Battle Against the Madonna Crusaders

LIVONIA, Mich. – The Siena Heights women's volleyball team competed against Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference rival the Madonna Crusaders, Wednesday night on the road. The match went to five sets, as both teams traded wins back and forth each set, fighting for slots in the WHAC standings.SHU is now 17-2 in conference play and 22-7 overall, the team pushed their winning streak to seven games with the victory over the Crusaders.

Olivia Norman paved the way for Siena collecting 14 kills and eight blocks. Kadie Carsten earned 10 kills during the match while adding one service ace and three blocks to the stat report. Claire VanDyke picked up 13 digs and one ace. While Devyne Eisenhauer totaled 15 digs, seven blocks, two aces, and seven kills. Libero Payton Osborne boasted 25 digs, five assists, and two aces. As setter Aubrey Bates rounded up 34 assists, six kills, two aces, and 16 digs.  

Taking set one SHU found a groove early on earning consistent points from behind the line and at the net, ending the set 25-15. The Crusaders responded by stealing set two 21-25 as they were able to put away more balls offensively than the Saints. Marching into set three the Saints fought point-for-point against Madonna until Kinsey Wagner stood at the service line creating separation that allowed Siena to take the third 25-15. Fighting back once again Madonna battled for set four and won by three points to tie the match. Siena ended the match by dominating play in the fifth set by tallying six kills and a hitting percentage of .250.
